Foundation for MetroWest Receives First Donation to MetroWest Business Leadership Fund

Emerson Hospital Gives $40K to Kickstart Unique Initiative

February 16, 2020 (Natick, MA) – The Foundation for MetroWest today announced Emerson Hospital is the first organization to donate to the Foundation’s Business Leadership Fund. The $40,000 gift will help ensure that the Foundation for MetroWest can continue to respond to the most pressing needs facing MetroWest communities. The Business Leadership Fund was made possible through a partnership between the Foundation and the Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation and will increase its impact as other businesses contribute.

“Emerson Hospital is so proud to be the first to donate to the MetroWest Business Leadership Fund. As the largest employer in Middlesex County, we believe it is important to lead by example,” said Christine Schuster, president and CEO, Emerson Hospital. “I have seen firsthand how, in their own quiet way, the Foundation is making a difference in multiple areas. We are thrilled to partner on this endeavor with organizations who share similar missions to care for the community.” Schuster was first introduced to the community foundation by her daughters, both of whom have participated in its Youth in Philanthropy program.

The Business Leadership Fund provides businesses the opportunity to make a difference in their own back yard, to have employees involved in their community and to make sure that funding is available where it is needed most. Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation will match any business’ gift of $1,000 or more, up to a total of $250,000.

“When people think of the MetroWest region, they don’t think of it as an area in need. However, there are pressing issues to address that will be best solved by a united community,” said Judy Salerno, executive director of Foundation for MetroWest. “This first donation is the perfect example of collaboration between the healthcare, business and nonprofit sectors. It will have a positive impact on all our region’s 700,000 residents.”

The Foundation recently released Impact MetroWest, an interactive website with hundreds of data points that provide important insights into the quality of life in the region and speak to the demonstrated need in the MetroWest community. The Foundation hopes that access to the information will help to inform future giving from businesses through programs like the MetroWest Business Leadership Fund.
